Abstract

In order to enhance the capability of submarine communication based on low-frequency electromagnetic waves, the propagation characteristics of low-frequency electromagnetic waves near the seafloor with a parallel Shift Operator Finite Difference Time Domain (SO-FDTD) method is presented. The numerical results indicate that the waved shape of seafloor does not alter the propagation path of the field components, which is to propagate into the seabed firstly, then go through the seabed, finally go back to the sea again. When the electromagnetic wave propagating through the waved region of seabed, a phenomenon of amplitude oscillation is observed. However, when the wave propagating away from the seabed into the sea, the propagation direction of electromagnetic wave rapidly reverts normal to the interface of seabed.
