Progresses in numerical simulation of solidification microstructure using cellular automaton method

Abstract

The basic principle of CA method and present research progress in domestic and foreign country were introduced. In fact, the research had developed from grain structure to dendrites structure, from 2-D to 3-D, and from the field without convection to that with convection. Furthermore, the tendency of study and development in the future is also suggested: existing model's growth kinetics needs to be improved, and application scope needs to be expanded to semi-solid solidification.
