Progress in preparing block copolymer by combining 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition with controlled radical polymerization

Abstract

1,3-dipolar cycloaddition resulted from alkynyl and azido is cream of the crop in click chemistry. This reaction is high-efficiency and its reaction condition is moderate. It offers a new way to prepare block copolymer with various well-defined structures by combining 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition with controlled radical polymerization. The prepared block copolymer is with high purity and narrow molecular weight distribution. In this paper, the facile combination of 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition with three kinds of controlled radical polymerization on preparing linear and nonlinear block copolymer was reviewed. Moreover, the further development direction was prospected.
