Abstract

Aimed at the elimination of welding defects of hot cracks and welding deformation in site-welding assembly of LY12CZ aluminum alloy sheet with 2500 mm × 6000 mm × 2 mm, TIG welding process with Hammering and Rolling Technique (HRT) was adopted and investigated. The joint microstructures were examined, and the ultimate strength and residual stress of the joints were measured in comparison with the normal TIG welding. The results show that HRT effectively relaxes the residual stresses of the joint and reduces the welding deformation. The optimized HRT parameters enable the hammering and rolling process to well match with the welding pool solidification, resulting in preventing LY12CZ aluminum alloy sheet from hot cracking.
