N2 - The present situation and progress of investigation on rocket based combined cycle (RBCC) propulsion system was introduced both at home and abroad in details. The investigation history and current progress of RBCC system in America were expatiated, and research project and production during different periods were described. Then the research status in ESA, France, Russia, Germany, Japan, Korea and China are presented. Experience, lessons and difficulties during the development of RBCC propulsion system were analyzed. And some problems and critical technique which need to be considered and settled during the RBCC development is pointed out. Finally, the suggestion about RBCC development in China is put forward.
