Abstract

The Al-Mg composites reinforced by nano-SiC particles (SiCp, average particle size 40 nm) in different particle contents of 0%, 0.5%, 1.0%, 2.0%, and 5.0% by mass were prepared by spark plasma sintering (SPS) in this paper. The microstructures of nano-SiCp reinforced Al-Mg composites (SiCp/Al-Mg) were observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM), the mechanical properties of the composites were tested, and the optimum SiCp content was defined. The results show that, the composite hardness increases with the increase of the nano-SiCp content, the tensile strength increases first and then decreases. The SiCp/Al-Mg composites with 1.0% nano-SiCp show the best performance, the relative density and tensile strength reaches 98.36% and 301.5 MPa, respectively.
