Abstract

The noise radiation characteristics of a pulse detonation engine model were investigated under several operation frequencies. By experimental measurement and data processing, it is found that the noise radiation characteristics are intermittent and periodic. Pulse detonation engine jet noise are mainly consisted of monopole source and quadrupole source. The frequency spectrum of the noise is very broad, and it's radiation energy is mainly concentrate in the frequency range of 0-5 kHz, composed of principal frequency (namely the detonation frequency) caused by the pulsed jet and harmonic frequencies. The peak sound level is independent of the detonation frequency. Impulse sound pressure level and sound power level and sound power increase along with the increasing of detonation frequency.
