Preliminary exergy analysis of intercooled recuperated turbofan engine

Abstract

By introducing the exergy destruction calculation method of the engine components, the intercooled recuperated turbofan engine calculation model and the simulation program were further developed. The component exergy destruction was calculated for the conventional turbofan engine and the intercooled recuperated turbofan engine, and comparison between each other was conducted. Preliminary exergy analysis of intercooled recuperated turbofan engine was carried out. The results indicate that, although intercooling and recuperation cause new loss, it can significantly reduce the losses of the high pressure turbine and the engine core exhaust stream, and improve the engine exergy efficiency.
