Abstract

Inertial actuators are commonly used in vibroacoustic application to actively control both vibrations and sound. The efficiency of employed actuators depends on their arrangements on the controlled structure. However, it is not obvious what is exactly the advantage of precise modelling and optimization over a random or quasi-random arrangement. Moreover, inertial actuators' mass often significantly loads the vibrating structure, thus impacting the natural frequencies and mode shapes. It is generally beneficial to include this phenomenon in the modelling process, however, it complicates the whole process and requires much more computational effort in order to find the optimal solution. This paper also considers this aspect, answering when it is beneficial to include actuators' mass and when it can be neglected.
