Abstract

In this paper, a system for interfacial tension measurement based on the pendant drop method is presented, in which the Canny edge detection of image processing is incorporated in inferring the interfacial tension. Extensive experiments have been carried out to evaluate the accuracy and applicability of the proposed system in interfacial tension measurement. Experimental results on water and ethanol solution show that edge detection significantly facilitates the system operation and increases the accuracy of interfacial tension measurement by providing precise drop contours in measurements.
