Abstract

In the process of preparing the particulate reinforced metal matrix composites with an atomization and co-deposition method, the injection of solid particulates into molten metal has been calculated in this paper. By considering the resistance forces of a particulate comprised of drag, surface force and buoyancy during the process of injection, a criterion has been derived. For the implant of particulates there is a minimum impinging velocity of a particulate impinging onto the melt membrane of the deposited layer. The diameters, kinetic energy of particulates and the wetting condition of particulates with metal will be very important factors for the implant of particulates.
