Abstract

Different kinds of C/SiC modified with Si-B-C coating were fabricated and oxidised for 50. h in static air. Weight loss, residual strength and microstructure were analysed. The results indicate that Si-B-C ceramic as self-healing component has a remarkable effect on improving the oxidation resistance for C/SiC. C/SiC modified with Si-B-C ceramic as exterior coating has excellent residual mechanical property below 1000°C. Meanwhile C/SiC with Si-B-C ceramic as intermediate coating exhibits better oxidation resistance above 1000°C. Borosilicate glass formed from oxidation of Si-B-C ceramic, which seals cracks effectively in composites, is the reason for excellent oxidation resistance of C/SiC.
