Abstract
A newly developed type of ternary composites was prepared by organic rectorite (OREC)-modified unsaturated polyester (UP) matrix and glass fibre. The micromorphologies and mechanism of OREC-modified composites were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). At the same time, the mechanical properties, the damp heat-resistance and the alkali-resistance of the composites were also discussed. It is found that the mechanical properties of composite at 2% OREC loading is the highest among the studied range of OREC loading, and that the damp heat-resistance and the alkali-resistance of the composites containing the OREC are improved when compared with the UP/glass fibre composite.
