Abstract

The application of a strong electric field to the process of superplastic deformation is a fair new technology of metal forming. The superplastic deformation of 15vol%Si Cp/LY12 Al composite under electric field has firstly been investigated. The specimen of aluminum alloy was fabricated by spray atomization and co-deposition and pretreated by isothermal hot compression and isothermal hot forward extrusion. The results of testings have found that strong electric field can improve the ultimate elongation at fracture for superplastic uniaxial tension of metal matrix composite. The effects of technological parameters on superplastic of the composite were studied to determine optimal parameters.
