Abstract
The optical activity of electrorheological (ER) fluids under external electric field was investigated. An expression of rotation angle from Maxwell's equations and Fresnel reflection was proposed. The results showed that the rotation angle increased monotonically with the concentrations and electric fields. The used ER fluids were found to be left-handed sided optically active substances under the application of electric field.
