Abstract

Some unmachinable or extremely difficult-to-machine facial features denote piecewise ruled surface-based features such as island, pocket and local pocket with restrictions on profile shape. In this paper, the method of auxiliary virtual profile to do proper cutting-area scheduling was user to obtain some distinguishing machining features of the area to be cut. And the golden mean optimization algorithm was also used to generate tool trajectories and tool axis the vectors of surface-based island and local pocket; meanwhile. The possible interference of the cutting tool with islands or boundaries was researched. All of these algorithms has been successfully applied in NC machining, a group of tool trajectories of a pocket with conical surface as its base and those of this pocket's four islands were shown.
