Abstract
A profile modification method for the spur face gears was proposed. The parabolic transmission error was obtained by profile modification for the rack cutters of the pinion and the shaper. The computational models for tooth contact analysis (TCA) and loaded tooth contact analysis (LTCA) of the face gears were established. The research results indicate that the new design can effectively avoid the edge contact, increase effective contact ratio and reduce the loaded transmission error with more uniform load distribution, thereby improving the transmission's stability.
