Abstract

In this letter, micro-explosions mechanisms induced by a single focused femtosecond laser pulse are investigated. Optical breakdown mechanisms of long laser pulse and short laser pulse are compared. The analytic expressions of micro-explosions threshold are derived. Based on this formula, micro-explosions threshold induced by a single focused femtosecond laser pulse in fused silica is calculated. The calculated results agree with the experimental data well.
