Abstract

The tooth edge contact of spiral bevel gears is usually unavoidable under bearing loads. With the edge geometrical and mating complexity, the tooth edge contact is ignored frequently in LTCA so as to lead the predicted results to deviate from real operating conditions. An accurate convenient method for the edge tooth contact analysis on spiral bevel gears is developed. The result to consider tooth edge contact is more real to simulate the whole of processing tooth meshing than that to ignore it. The tooth edge contact influences on load share at teeth, load distribution on surface and transmission error, and further to cause the changes of tooth strength and dynamic behavior.
