Abstract

The dynamic mechanism of tooth surfaces corrected mutually and error average in lapping operation of hypoid gears were firstly proposed and investigated. The dynamic model of the lapping was setup, and the dynamic lapping force was calculated. The dynamic lapping force takes an important role of removing materials and eliminating errors in lapping operation of the gears. The removal of material takes firstly place at the instant of impact of the peak point of surface and the changeover point between teeth during lapping, thus the rolling, the sliding and changeover between teeth tend to smoothness. The experimental comparison of the tooth precision and the dynamic mesh performance before and after lapping had been carried out. The results show that the lapping operation may reduce the tooth shape and pitch variation to some extent and improve the dynamic mesh performance of gears greatly.
