Abstract

The influence of nickel content (1.5%-7.0 wt%) and prestrain on shape memory effect of Fe-Mn-Si-Cr-Ni alloys were studied. The microstructure of the alloys was examined by transmission electron microscopy. The research results show that the maximum shape recovery ratio of the alloys corresponds to the magnitude of the value of Δσ, which is the difference of tensile ultimate strength σb and yield strength σ0.2, and the alloy containing 3.15 wt% nickel gives the best shape memory effect. This is due to the formation of stress-induced ε martensite with single orientation in the pre-strained alloy containing 3.15 wt% nickel.
