Abstract
The tribological properties of compounds with hydroxyl group as lubricating additive in liquid paraffin were investigated by using Timken tester and reciprocal friction tester. The wear debris on the aluminum block was studied with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The load-carrying capacity and antiwear ability of the compounds are high, which are affected by the chemical environment of hydroxyl group. The lubricating function of the compounds is attributed to the formation of the complex of aluminum with alcohol or phenol.
