Abstract

Aim. Existing methods of effectiveness evaluation draw on the experience of experts, thus bringing in the subjective factor that sometimes influences unduly the effectiveness of evaluation. In this paper, by using information entropy theory coupled with grey evaluation, we can avoid the subjective factor in the form of the experience of experts. In the full paper, we explain in detail our evaluation method; in this abstract, we just add some pertinent remarks to listing the two topics of explanation; (1) the characteristics of information entropy; (2) the evaluation method of underwater vehicle using information entropy theory. The subtopics of topic 1 are the definition of information entropy (subtopic 1.1) and the characteristics of information entropy (subtopic 1.2). The eight subtopics of topic 2 are: the construction of the evaluation index system of underwater vehicle (subtopic 2.1), the normalization of the evaluation index data (subtopic 2.2), the weight of information entropy of evaluation index (subtopic 2.3), the assumption of the grey levels of an underwater vehicle (subtopic 2.4), the determination of the matrix of evaluation sample (subtopic 2.5), the calculation of the value of grey evaluation (subtopic 2.6), the construction of the weight matrix of grey evaluation (subtopic 2.7), and the calculation of the comprehensive value of evaluation (subtopic 2.8). Eqs. (5) and (16) in subtopics 2.3 and 2.8 respectively are particularly important. Finally we give an example for the effectiveness evaluation of three underwater vehicles; the evaluation index data for three underwater vehicles are respectively given in Table 1 in the full paper; matrices S and R are calculated respectively with eqs. (5) and (16) in the full paper; these results indicate preliminarily that this evaluation method is feasible and reasonable.
