Abstract

This chapter introduces a new computing paradigm of human-machine combination. Designing a general framework for human-machine collaboration and cooperation is conducive to the development of this field. The new paradigm is named human-machine computing (HMC) because it combines capabilities of humans and machines during computing process. A general platform named hmOS is constructed for managing and scheduling humans and machines that interactively work together in a task in a continuous development environment. During the human-machine cooperation and collaboration procedure, performances of machines and humans can be gradually improved under the influence of each other. In this chapter, the paradigm HMC is introduced from following perspectives: definition, framework, challenges, technologies, and practices.
