Abstract

The high-quantum efficiency of erbium-doped bismuth-based oxide glasses were investigated. The excited state absorption and upconversion of erbium were restarained when proper amount of hydroxyl group as deactivator was added. The light absorption of erbium is generally weak so ytterbium was used to improve the light absorption. This also helped to produce some amplifiers with good properties.
