Abstract

Flexural waves will generate guided modes if they are affected by a free edge or a structural boundary. These modes have a propagation characteristic similar to Rayleigh waves, that is, they propagate along the boundary and decay in the direction perpendicular to one. In this paper, we numerically observe guided modes of flexural waves in a LEGO plate with a metasurface. The metasurface consists of a cluster of pillars which are considered as resonators. These guided waves propagate along the metasurface and decay in the direction perpendicular to one. Our work offers a simple method to observe guided modes of flexural waves by common LEGO toys instead of metal specimens, which is easier to verify experimentally and thus deepen the understanding of guided waves.
