Abstract

The aim of this work was to investigate the growth behavior and microstructure formation of the aluminide coatings on Nb-Si based alloy. A kinetic equation concerning the thickness of coating with aluminizing parameters has been established. The activation energy for the growth of aluminide coating on Nb-Si based alloy was calculated to be 116.5 kJ·mol−1. There was no “pest” for the (Nb,X)Al3 coatings and protective scales can be formed on coatings after oxidation at 800–1250 ℃. The existence of Si, Cr, Hf and Ti in the coating is beneficial to improve the oxidation resistance.
