Abstract

We proposed a severe plastic deformation process named friction stir extrusion to fabricate high-strength-and-ductility rare-earth containing Mg alloys. Grain refinement and homogeneously-dispersion of second-phases were obtained under the coupling thermo-mechanical effect, which resulted in the yield strength, ultimate strength and compression strain increased by 42.5%, 63.6% and 35.5% respectively.
