Abstract

With the rapid development of the more electric aircraft (MEA) equipped with an integrated starter-generator, it is of great significance to carry out research on fault diagnosis of the multi-stage brushless synchronous starter-generator (MBSSG) to improve the reliability and maintainability of the system. An electrical fault diagnosis method for the rotating components of MBSSG based on the rotor currents of the main exciter (ME) is proposed in this paper. Through detailed analysis of the average values and averaged absolute values of the ME rotor currents under various fault conditions, electrical faults in the rotor of the ME, the rotating rectifier and the rotor of the main machine of the MBSSG can be detected and located. Simulation results verified the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method.
