Abstract

The indentation and uniaxial creep behavior of Aluminum alloy LY12CZ were compared. Firstly, indentation creep and uniaxial creep experiments were studied, from the uniaxial tensile creep and indentation creep results, the material creep parameters and indentation creep parameters were derived. Secondly, the indentation creep testing was simulated by the finite element method (FEM), from indentation creep calculation results, the material indentation creep parameters were also derived. They are both shown that the stress exponent determined from indentation and uniaxial creep testing is identical, respectively, at a same temperature. The consistency and equivalence between the indentation and uniaxial creep experiments are verified by conversion factor. The good agreement of creep parameters obtained from indentation and conversional uniaxial creep testing demonstrates that indentation creep testing is suitable to characterize creep, and it is also confirmed that the material s creep factor and stress exponent can be determined from indentation creep testing.
