Abstract

The effects of processing parameters on the growth morphology and levitation force of large YBCO bulk superconductors have been investigated. Sm2O3 powder and NdBCO single crystal were used as seeds to study the role of the seeds on the morphology of YBCO bulk superconductors. It is found that the best cooling rate is about 1°C/h for the prepatartion of large-domain YBCO bulk superconductor. Single-domain YBCO bulk samples (φ 30 mm) have been fabricated using seeds of NdBCO single crystal, the levitation force is up to 53N when a NdFeB magnet of φ 25 mm is used.
