Abstract

Amorphous Mg65Cu25-xNixTb10 (x makes 0∼ 10) rods with different diameters were prepared by- conventional Cu mold casting method. Effects of Ni addition on the glass forming ability and mechanical properties of Mg-Cu-Tb amorphous alloy were analyzed by means of XRD( X-ray diffraction) , DSC (differential scanning calorimetry) , quasistatic compression testing and SEM (scanning electron microscope). It is found that although it can decrease the glass forming ability and thermal stability of the alloy, appropriate Ni addition can greatly improve the fracture strength of Mg-Cu-Tb-Ni amorphous alloys, in which fracture strength of Mg65 Cu20 Ni5 Tb10 can reach 943MPa, much higher than Mg65 Cu25 Tb10 alloy.
