Abstract

This study contributes to the orange technology on ML and employee positive emotion in the workplace. We propose that the motivating language (ML), positive emotion, especially the long-term positive emotion on the job generates favorable work outcomes. The current study examines the relationships between leader's ML, employee personality traits, and workplace outcomes in Chinese companies. The mediating effects of employee positive emotion and person-organization fit (P-O fit) in these relationships are also investigated. The results reveal that both ML and conscientiousness are significantly related to positive emotion, both of which play mediating roles in the relationship between ML, conscientiousness, and two of the three workplace outcomes. Test results also show that agreeableness affected all three employee outcomes through the effect of P-O fit.
