Abstract

The thermal radiation tests were conducted to investigate the effect of oxidation damage on the total emissivity of 2D C/SiC composites with SiC coating from 1273K to 1973K. It had found that once the oxide formed on the composites surface, the oxide dictated the radiative behavior of the composites and the total emissivity improved a lot. The total emissivity of the oxidized composites showed a moderate rise when the surface morphology had a little change at higher oxidation temperature and longer oxidation time. When the oxidation aggravated in the composites, a compact oxide coating with many cracks had formed on the composites surface. The cracks and the oxide were both considered to contribute to the remarkable increase in the total emissivity.
