Abstract
In order to investigate effect of non-component adhesive on the friction and wear performances of paper-based friction materials, samples with different amounts of adhesive were obtained using modified phenolic resin as adhesive on a flat vulcanizing machine. Cross-section of samples was observed by optical microscope. The effect of adhesive on friction and wear performances was investigated on an inertia friction tribo-meter. Experimental results showed that permeating depth of adhesive into the matrix increased with the amount of daubed adhesive increased. For friction material with a thickness less than 1.0 mm, adhesive can permeate through the friction material and had influence on its performances. As the amount of adhesive on frictional surface by infiltration increased, braking stability of material became worse. The dynamic friction coefficient and static friction coefficient became lower and higher, respectively. The wear rate firstly decreased and then increased.
