Abstract

The thermodynamic feasibility of Potassium hexafluorotitanate (K2TiF6) on Fe reduction was calculated in the process of magnesium smelting. The influence factors of Fe reduction, such as the way, content, temperature of K2TiF6 being added and the holding time were studied and discussed. The experimental results showed that reducing MgO in magnesium melt and enhancing the temperature can improve the effect of reducing Fe using K2TiF6. The content of Fe in magnesium melt can be reduced from 0.028% to 0.004% when it is added 0.3%~0.4% K2TiF6 which is counted by pure titanium to magnesium melt, and the temperature is 780°C, holding time 20 min respectively.
