Dual-Modality Photoacoustic-Ultrasonic Imaging of Tumors under the Concept of Precision Medicine

Abstract

Nowadays, the development of medicine has en-tered the era of 'precision medicine'. The concept of precision medicine has also become the frontier and hot direction pursued by the medical community in China, especially in the field of clinical tumor treatment. As a high mortality disease that seri-ously endangers human health, cancer brings a serious burden to patients and society. Therefore, early and accurate diagnosis of tumor is very important. Modern medicine is inseparable from advanced imaging medicine. Through the application of metrol-ogy technology, we can continuously improve the accuracy and depth of image measurement, especially when obtaining anatom-ical structure information, we can 'see clearly', 'see accurately' and 'see early', so as to obtain biochemical mechanism. In recent years, imaging technology has developed rapidly, and has gradually changed to integration, multimodality and cross-scale image fusion. The limitations of various imaging technologies have been gradually overcome by their integrated technologies, or various imaging technologies have reached an ideal state of com-plementary advantages. Dual-modality photoacoustic-ultrasonic imaging technology is a new composite imaging technology developed based on this concept, which integrates the advantages of ultrasound (structural information, high penetration) and photoacoustic (functional information, high contrast). It has been used in disease diagnosis, personalized treatment, prognosis judgment, tumor occurrence and development, invasion and metastasis, angiogenesis, and molecular biological changes. It can not only obtain tissue function and related molecular information through photoacoustic contrast agents, but also contribute to the study of tissue structure, morphology, physiology, pathological characteristics and metabolic function. This article reviews its application in tumor imaging.
