Abstract

A differential 2×2 rectenna unit is proposed for scalable microwave power harvesting. An air dielectric-loaded aperture-coupled dual-polarized patch antenna is designed to achieve high radiation gain and efficiency with low cross polarization. It facilitates uneven-even power distribution with high polarization purity by two hybrid couplers for polarization-insensitive energy reception. Through the differential operation of the antenna and rectifiers, enhanced radiation performance and high RF-to-DC conversion efficiency in low spectrum density scenarios can be achieved. Simulations of the rectenna unit and array both demonstrate outstanding performance, which shows potential for applications in a programmable microwave energy harvesting device (Fig. 1).
