Abstract
Target acquisition requires the knowledge of its velocity, and this, in turn, requires the determination of its moving image. The discovery of statistical characteristics of broadband image made it possible to use moving broadband image as input of elementary motion-detector (EMD) to accurately estimate its velocity. The consistent correspondence between mean motion-detector response and velocity of broadband image is analyzed. An analytical method is developed to predict the mean response of a motion-detector to the moving broadband image. According to the test data of motion-detection response to narrow-band and broadband image, a preliminary conclusion is given that the response to the single-line of broadband image just depends on this line's spectrum energy, and that consequently the motion-detector can provide an accurate estimate of the velocity of the moving broadband image.
