Abstract

A design and new theoretical model of a quantum dot (QD) microcaity laser operating at 1 THz is proposed based on a semiconductor QD gain medium, where the lasing occurs through discrete conduction states. Our calculations show that a significant population inversion and frequency as low as 1 THz can be reached can be achieved. It is concluded that it maybe serve as a terahertz laser.
