Abstract
A single-phase d-quasicrystal was produced by means of electromagnetic levitation melting and cyclic superheating in the Al72Ni16Co12 alloy undercooled by larger than 60 K. With the increasing undercoolings, d-phase showed various microstructural morphologies, which results from the change of growth mode from a lateral growth along the quasiperiodic directions to a continuous growth along the periodic direction of ten-fold axis.
