Abstract

In this present paper, the author review recently research development about surface corrosion, high-temperature oxidation and surface modification of titanium and titanium alloys. The main research development for corrosion of titanium and its alloys summarize as: 1) the corrosion behaviors of Ti6A14V and Ti5Al2Nb1Ta by plasma nitriding and N+ ion implantation in Hank's solution. 2) Corrosion behaviors of titanium alloys in nuclear waste repository environments. 3) Crevice corrosion nature of Ti-Pd alloy coating. 4) The corrosion characteristics of the titanium alloys in three different environments at various temperatures. For oxidation the research summarize as: 1) Influence of Y-addition on the oxidation behavior of Al-rich γ-TiAl alloys has been studied. 2) The oxidation characteristics of Ti-5.8Al-4.06Sn-3. 61Zr-0.7Nb-0.54 Mo at different elevated temperatures. 3) The characteristic of plain aluminide and Pt-aluminide coatings have been investigate on the near-α titanium alloys. 4) The isothermal oxidation behavior of Ti-46.6Al-1.4Mn-2Mo-0.3C-0.3Y based alloys. The research development of wear resistant summarize as: 1) wear resisting property of titanium treated by no-hydrogen carburize and titanium with oxide coating by Micro Arc Oxidation 2) wear resisting property of titanium deposited Mo by double glow plasma alloy technology.
