Crystallographic study of surface finish in pack rolling of thin sheets

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

A Crystallographic model has been presented for the surface roughness modelling of thin sheet rolling. Single sheet rolling model and pack rolling model are studied by three and two (plane strain) dimensional models. The influences of the grain size and stress states have been analysed. Comparisons have been made between the single sheet model and double sheet model, and between the three dimensional simulation and plane strain simulation. For the 3D and 2D models studied here, there is not obvious difference between the single sheet model and pack rolling model. So in some cases, the single sheet model can replace the pack rolling model to save CPU time. The 2D model gives a higher prediction of surface roughness than 3D model.
