Abstract

Spinning is one of the advanced flexible near-net shape forming processes for manufacturing of metal components with axisymmetric hollow shape. Conventional spinning and power spinning are two typical kinds of spinning process. In conventional spinning, the diameter of blank is decreased gradually; while the wall thickness of blank keeps nearly constant in the whole process. It presents the advantages of low forming load, good dimensional accuracy, smooth surface finish, and high material utilization. The conventional spinning, on the other hand, is a complex multi-pass and multi-parameter forming process, during which the blank undergoes complex deformation behavior and is prone to produce forming defects. The process design needs carful concern in the practical application of spinning. In this article, the process principle, realization, uniqueness, capability, applications, and the quality of the fabricated parts and structures are delineated.
