Abstract

In this paper, porous metal fibers with open porosity have been prepared by using vacuum sintering technology. Diameter of the stainless steel fibers is 12 μm. Morphology of the porous metal fibers was investigated by means of scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) and the compressive properties of the porous metal fibers were studied in quasi-static condition by using MTS858 system at room temperature. The results indicated that microstructure of the porous metal fibers exhibit more complicated. Moreover, the stress-strain curves for porous metal fibers exhibit smooth stages and no collapse during plateau stage. The yield strength of the samples increased with the decreasing of the porosity of porous metal fibers.
