Abstract
The thermal decomposition performances, flameout surface characteristics and condensed combustion products of composite modified double-base propellant(CMDB) containing reactive metals such as aluminum(Al) and magnesium/aluminum(Mg/Al) mechanical alloy were investigated by pressure differential scanning calorimetry (PDSC), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS) and quantitative X-ray diffraction analysis(XRD). The effect of Mg/Al mechanical alloy on the combustion mechanism was discussed. The combustion physical model of propellant was established. The results show that the substitution of Mg/Al mechanical alloy in propellant for Al powder makes the burning rate increase, pressure index decrease, combustion efficiency of Al increase, thermal decomposition sensitivity enhance, decomposition enthalpy decrease and the agglomerate of Al disappear.
