Abstract

The properties and microstructures have been researched for TiC particles reinforced titanium matrix composites (TP-650). Results indicate that the strength for this composite at ambient temperature were little varying with different heat treatment. The comprehensive properties of as-annealed composite with furnace cooling were superior to that with oil cooling and air cooling. The service temperature for TP-650 was about 50°C-100°C more than that of ordinary titanium alloys (i.e. IMI834, Ti-1100). It possessed better thermal stability over 500°C. The distribution of TiC particles was dispersive in titanium matrix. The microstructure was homogeneous and the interfaces between TiC particles and titanium matrix were metallurgical bond.
