Abstract

The application of permanent magnet pre-exciter in traditional three-stage brushless wound-rotor synchronous starter-generator (BLWRSSG) reduces the system power density, and reduces system reliability. In order to improve power density and system safety, a novel two-stage BLWRSSG is proposed in this paper by removing the permanent magnet pre-exciter and using feedback excitation in the generation state. The operation principle and control methods of the proposed two-stage BLWRSSG at different working stages are explained in this paper. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed two-stage BLWRSSG and control method are verified through experiments.
