Abstract

Ceramic coating was a logical method for protection of carbon/carbon (C/C) composite against high temperatures. The oxidation process and anti-oxidation techniques were introduced. The new advancement of oxidation resistant ceramic coatings, including single-phase, multi-phase mosaic, gradient, whisker toughening and multi-layer composite coatings, were reviewed. In addition, the protection and failure mechanisms of some coatings at high temperature were discussed. The present problems and the main research direction of ceramic coatings for C/C composites were also proposed.
