Abstract

The low-resolution radar echo Doppler signal of a multi-target flying group can generally be approximated by linear frequency modulation model. An adaptive chirp decomposition (ACD) method was used to decompose the radar echo signal to a series of linear frequency modulation base functions. Then, adaptive chirp representation (ACR) was obtained by Wigner-Ville distribution (WVD) transform. As the base functions used in ACR are quite matched to the radar signals, so results from ACR are better in time-frequency resolution and cross terms are diminished, thus ensuring accurate determination of number of targets in multi-target flying group. Simulation results show the ACR method is of higher target resolution and suppression capacity for cross terms and noise.
